As the term of office of the current AO CMF Middle East & Northern Africa (AO CMF MENA) Board Chair Amir Elbarbary will come to an end by mid-2022, AO CMF MENA invites interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria to submit their applications by midnight Egypt Standard Time / Central Africa Time on July 25, 2021.

Eligibility criteria

The AO CMF MENA chair position is suited to a highly motivated individual of professional repute, with excellent global scientific and clinical recognition.

The successful applicant will lead the AO CMF MENA Board by overseeing and managing all board activities. The applicant must be able to work in a multicultural environment with no travel restrictions. She/he should have a good regional and international reputation, strong interpersonal skills, and recognition as a regional leader. She/he must also be a good communicator, with an excellent command of English. The new AO CMF MENA Board chair is expected to have the vision to lead and contribute to AO CMF and help set new standards positioning AO CMF as a global leader in craniomaxillofacial surgery education and research.

Eligible candidates are:

  • Current or past members of the AO CMF MENA Board
  • Active AO CMF MENA faculty with at least five years of AO teaching experience after board approval
  • Current or past members of any AO CMF global commission or task force (eg AO CMF Community Development Commission, Adjunct AO CMF Community Development Member, Technical Commission, Education Commission, R&D Commission)
  • Residents of the Middle East or Northern Africa region and fulfill the requirements of the job description.

The successful candidate will serve as the AO CMF MENA Board Chair for a three-year term (from July 2022 to June 2025) with the possibility to apply for a second three-year term subsequently.

To apply, the candidate must fulfill the requirements provided in the attached job description and be an AO CMF Member.

Election process

Applications must be submitted by e-mail to the Regional Manager AO CMF MENA, Diana Greiner, to diana.greiner@aofoundation.org, by midnight Egypt Standard Time / Central Africa Time on July 25, 2021. The Nominating Committee will review all applications by August 8, to ensure that the prerequisites are fulfilled. The election will be conducted by electronic voting towards mid-August 2021. The "first past the post" election mechanism with multiple rounds (runoffs) will be used. If a candidate achieves an absolute majority in any round, she/he will be the winner. The candidate with the least votes will be eliminated at each round. Another round will be carried out if no candidate achieves an absolute majority.

The name of the elected AO CMF MENA Board Chair will be announced by September 20, 2021. She/he is expected to assume the post in July 2022 for a three-year term.

Eligible voters

The electorate includes all voting members of the AO CMF MENA Board; voting members of any AO CMF global commission or task force (eg AO CMF Community Development Commission, Adjunct AO CMF Community Development Member, Technical Commission, Education Commission, R&D Commission) who are residents of the Middle East or Northern Africa region. Each voting member has one vote. Candidates running for election are not allowed to vote.
