CMTR Open is an exciting and innovative project that was started five years ago by Sabine Girod (USA) as Editor-in-Chief and Florian M. Thieringer (Switzerland). Since last year, Mike Leung from Hong Kong completes the Editorial Board. They all have established a scientifically respected, widely read, and frequently cited open-access journal, unique in its multi-disciplinary approach to include contributions from the world of maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, and otolaryngology, as well as ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgery.

Sabine Girod has informed us that she intends to retire from her current position as Editor-in-Chief early 2021. Fortunately, she will continue to support the journal as Editor-in-Chief Emerita.

With this communication, we begin the search for a new member of the Editorial Board for the position of Co-Editor-in-Chief. Please find the list of key responsibilities here.

The candidate should:

  • Be an AO CMF member
  • Be a well-respected figure in the scientific and/or clinical world
  • Have a good track record of publications
  • Be able and willing to dedicate about five to ten hours of working time per month to CMTR Open

If you are interested in the job or if you know suitable candidates, please submit the following documents by close of business on January 31, 2021:

  • A curriculum vitae (CV), including publications list
  • A letter of motivation

Please submit the complete documentation to the AO CMF Executive Director, Erich Roethlisberger (

The nomination committee will review the applications and put together the shortlist by February 7, 2021, followed by interviews. The start of the new position would be on March 1, 2021.

We would highly appreciate receiving your application or, if you know surgeons who might have the experience, know-how, and enthusiasm, please let them know about this open position.
